A super-sharp scalpel is sliced over the skin of the abdomen and augmented with three punctures by a trochar. Then, a machine that I can only describe as a three-armed octopus robot, fitted with strange tools that I had never seen before, rolled over and was guided into the holes of the woman’s body. A solid ten hours in the operating room went by like it was only a few minutes. It was amazing and exciting. Watching live robot surgery changed the way I see doctors and medicine. How little I knew about things I thought I knew about, and how different something like health care and hospitals may be in the future. Through my time as an intern, I am more interested in becoming a doctor than I had been previously. The saving of lives may be the best way I can use my abilities to their fullest potential.
